Discussion point from last night's meeting:
What do we need to do to prepare the park for winter?
-do we fertilize? -do we prune? -do we mulch?

I googled this and found this informative website: www.helpfulgardener.com/design/2003/winter.html-pruning and fertilizing is not recommeded in late fall because it stimulates growth -mulch is good for protection -now is the time to plants bulbs -you can cut back perrenials to 6-8 in. above ground if desired, though not necessary, some look attractive in the winter, some may look untidy.

I always cut back my roses in November and put pine needles around them for mulch over the winter. If you'd like I'll be glad to do it.
