I am happy to report that the results are in... We have won 2nd place in the PA Horticultural Society 2006 City Gardens Contest in the Community Park category!!!
(I don't know how many community parks were in this category)
We won a $25 Amex Gift Certificate, which I assume we'll want to use to buy our next round of plants, supplies, etc. for the park. And we get an associate membership to the Horticultural Society, which gets us a variety of benefits including access to PHS gardening advice, and I believe, invitations to the great (free) classes PHS offers. I will fill everyone in on the details as I get them.
Also- we are invited to attend the City Gardens Contest Awards Reception on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2pm at the Kimmel Center. This is a nice event- I've been in the past. They announce all the contest winners, and display photos of all the winners' gardens, and usually there's cakes and cookies involved. Let me know in the next week or so if you are interested in going, and I will RSVP for everyone.
Nice work everyone! It's very gratifying to have all our efforts acknowledged!

Sweet!!!
We should add this credential to the front of our webpage.
Maybe Izzy the webmaster can do this.
How many people can go to the awards reception?
Who would like to go?
I'm not real big on receptions.

I think the 2nd Place in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society 2006 City Gardens Contest in the Community Park category is just the coolest!
Little Blairsville transplants make good in Philadelphia! (could be headlines, huh??) Seriously, good job! I think it is exciting, too! I am so happy for you and your buddies on the block! I can't wait to hear about the awards ceremony. I also saw that you can go to classes! I would LOVE to be able to go to the classes! That is fabulous. Get hand outs for me! "High five" from me to all of you! Linda

Hey nice work guys. The community garden must look great after a summer of heat, sun and water (let alone hard work, determination and love) being poured into it. Good to see the block excelling in areas other than block partying!!!
I hope all is well in Philadelphia; things are looking pretty swell out here in Pebble Beach. Hopefully I will get to see some of you on thursday October 5th, I'll be flying in for chuck's farm thanks to the footwork of Jim and Tim in State College. maybe you'll have some photos from the awards ceremony!?!?!
Everyone take care and good luck this upcoming fall!!
James
